As US carmaker Ford unveiled its new Mustang on the global stage in aDecember, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) announced that local fans could look forward to seeing the iconic pony car in local showrooms in 2015.

The new Ford Mustang has been redesigned and re-engineered, while still embracing the Mustang’s 50-year heritage.

Key design features of the new Ford Mustang include a contemporary execution of the car’s signature shark-bite front fascia.

“The Ford Mustang inspires passion like no other car,” says Ford global product development group VP Raj Nair. “The visceral look, sound and performance of the Mustang resonate with people, even if they’ve never driven one. “The Mustang is definitely more than just a car – it is the heart and soul of Ford.”

More than nine-million Mustangs have been sold since first being launched in 1964.

The world’s most-liked vehicle on Facebook, Mustang has made thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games, and is one of 15 new vehicles that Ford will launch in South Africa by 2017.

“The illustrious Mustang brand has eluded us for some years in South Africa, but as the One Ford [global vehicle platform] strategy continues to develop, we can now look forward to welcoming this iconic nameplate to South African showrooms,” says FMCSA marketing manager South Africa Gavin Golightly.

“Today’s reveal has been much anticipated around the globe and we are thrilled to now be part of the Mustang journey.”

The Mustang will continue to be built in the US, at the Flat Rock assembly plant.
