Name and Location
Aurora photovoltaic (PV) solar power project, Minnesota, US.

Client
Enel, through its subsidiary, Enel Green Power North America.

Project Description
The Aurora project will be Enel’s biggest solar plant in North America when complete.

The project will comprise 16 PV plants with an installed capacity of 150 MWdc1 and will be able to generate more than 210-million kilowatt hours a year – equivalent to the energy needs of more than 17 000 US households.

The plant will also prevent the emission of more than 150 000 t/y of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year.

The project features a distributed solar design that comprises the installation of multiple small-scale solar sites and and delivers a range of benefits, including a reduction in line loss elimination of transmission. Each of the 16 facilities will use linear axis tracking devices to maximise efficiency and production, and will be connected to the offtaker’s distribution system.

Value
The project will require an investment of about $290-million.

Duration
The project is expected to come on line by the end of 2016.

Latest Developments
Construction on the project started in May 2016.
