Aurecon was targeting a Green Star South Africa (SA) rating for a new R88-million green office building that will be built next to its existing Century City office building, in Cape Town, by November.

Aurecon, which built the first five-star Green Star SA Office Design v1-rated office in 2011, said it was “rapidly outgrowing” its office space and would join the first building – to be named Aurecon East – to the new one, named Aurecon West, through a sky bridge.

The construction of the 3 280 m2, two-level premium office space, with three parking levels containing 152 undercover parking bays, would start early this year.

Rabie Property would develop the building, which would be owned by Ingenuity Properties, while Aurecon would be responsible for the engineering services and the Green Star rating application to the Green Building Council of South Africa for the new building.

MaC Architects was tasked with assisting with the design of the building, while Ludwig Design Consulting would assist with the Green Star rating process.
