Attila goes underground at Kodiak
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Coal hopeful Attila Resources has gained entry into the underground workings at the historic Coke No 1 mine, in the US, after receiving approval from the Mining Safety and Health Administration.
The Coke No 1 mine in Alabama was placed on care andmaintenance at the end of 2008, and forms part of the Kodiak project, which is currently the subject of a definitive feasibility study (DFS).
“Successful mine re-entry is a key milestone for Attila and we are very pleased with the conditions we have encountered on entering the mine for the first time in six years,” said Attila CEO Scott Sullivan.
The existing portals at Coke No 1 were inspected and found to be in excellent condition, he added, with minimal roof and floor preparation required. The primary ventilation circuit has also been re-established.
Attila would now proceed with routine preparations to the start of a bulk-sampling programme.
“We are excited to get back underground and with the start of bulk sampling this week, the definitive feasibility study continues to progress on schedule,” Sullivan said.
The DFS was scheduled for completion in the December quarter of this year.
