Commenting on the budgeted projection of R847 billion over the next three years on infrastructure and specifically on sustainable investments, Damane Hlalele, CEO of Arup South Africa, stated that the company is delighted with the predictions.

He added that the creation of the Presidential Infrastructure Coordination Commission should reduce infrastructure backlogs and drive the construction industry forward.

Minister Pravin Gordhan’s comments on sustainable energy made mention of the 47 renewable energy projects concluded in 2012 and 2013, which included the  first South African utility-scale photovoltaic facility, delivered under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme in the Northern Cape in late 2013. Arup was the Lender’s Technical Adviser from the pre-bid stage through to financial close and construction.

Also commenting on the integrated city development grant of R814 million over the medium term to strengthen long-term city planning and encourage private investment in urban development, Hlalele pointed out that Arup is globally renowned for its commitment to government clients at city, regional and national level.

Its engineers and designers work to create, improve and run better public infrastructure and buildings, while its planners and policy experts provide the framework for action. It helps the public sector to build communities that will thrive into the future.

Arup is the creative force at the heart of many of the world’s most prominent projects in the built environment and across industry.
