Gerard de Villiers, logistics specialist at Arup in SA, was awarded the 2018 Chairman’s Award for outstanding professional contribution to the Transportation Engineering Division of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), at a luncheon held recently in Johannesburg.
“It is an honour to be the recipient of this prestigious award. The Transportation Division has always been one of the most active and interesting divisions within SAICE, and I want to compliment them on achieving their mission of promoting all modes of transport and the advancement of transportation as a specialist field within civil engineering,” said de Villiers.
Jarendra Reddy, Chairperson of the SAICE Transportation Engineering Division added, “de Villiers is someone who has been exceptionally devoted to his craft, continuously improving himself so that he could be of better service to academia, the industry and society at large. This is reflected through the combination of his academic pursuits, participation in academia, long service to SAICE and his willingness to participate in public discourse on controversial transport engineering matters”.
“We are extremely proud of Gerard and his achievement in winning this award. He is an asset to Arup, bringing his wealth of knowledge to bear on many of our strategic projects. Both clients and colleagues find his technical expertise and steady guidance a winning combination,” concludes Pheku Montwedi, Director and Transport Business Leader at Arup South Africa.
