South African power utility Eskom has awarded French equipment manufacturer Areva a multi-million Euro services contract at Koeberg nuclear power plant, over three years from June 1, 2008.

In the framework of this project, an international Areva team, including French, South African, and American specialists was being deployed at the Koeberg site.

The team would contribute to further improvement of the plant’s performance and to the ongoing development of Eskom’s staff, through outage management lead, and outage preparation control for Koeberg units one and two.

“With more than 20 years of collaboration on Koeberg site, Eskom and Areva have built a strong relationship based on mutual trust. This new contract is paving the way for global cooperation that will profit Eskom and the South African power generation situation as a whole. This is a strong commitment for Areva,” said senior executive vice president Joël Pijselman.
