Company Annoucncement - As one of the most established and experienced oil and gas upstream service providers in South Africa, and a company within the DCD Marine Cluster, DCD Marine Cape Town has earned a reputation as a safe, reliable and internationally competitive shipyard. Success in the oil and gas industry is the result of strong ties built up with clients over the years, which are, in turn, based on proven service delivery. One of the company’s recent contract awards was for the refit of one of Halliburton’s original well-stimulation vessels, the Stim Star. The Angola-based vessel, which was launched in 1999 as one of the first of its kind, has successfully undergone dry dock repairs by DCD Marine Cape Town in 2012 and 2013. Following the completion of the necessary repairs by DCD Marine Cape Town over the past few months, the vessel will return to Angolan waters.

Stim Star work consisted of a complete upgrade on the equipment to fulfil advanced technology challenges in the West Africa area. Extensive additions and modifications led to the capability of pumping 100 percent environmentally-friendly chemicals to meet the modern environmental legislation; in addition to a new generation on-the-fly frac blender, acidising plant, automated sand delivery system and next-generation technical control centre.

On the marine side, a third reference system on the vessel was installed offering a highly flexible gyro compass solution combined with heading and control information needed for effective operations under harsh conditions. This has been a busy year for DCD Marine Cape Town to date, with a number of major repair projects completed. The company was recognised earlier this year by the Western Cape Provincial Government for its significant contribution to the growth of the Western Cape economy, specifically as a result of the revenue brought to the region as a result of Saipem’s Scarabeo 7 project. “It is extremely gratifying to be recognised not only by local government, but by our valued clients in the international shipping industry, for our capacity to deliver reliable, safe and efficient project management and turnkey services.
