Earlier this year a transformer explosion caused extensive damage to a substation on the Eastern side of Johannesburg. This highlighted how transformer health is critical and an accurate history on a transformer can provide much needed insight into preventing electrical failures or emergencies.

WPI Power Solutions offer preventative maintenance services for medium voltage transformers up to 132 kV with simple routine testing and repairs. Our team is available for emergency and scheduled maintenance on all types of transformers.

These include annual transformer inspections, a range of transformer oil tests and analysis of the test reports provide a picture on the overall health of a transformer. The data this provides is critical and if a history is kept, comparisons can offer trending analysis on the life of the transformer. Oil treatment is required to remove moisture and suspended particles from within the oil. WPI have three mobile units to complete this task onsite with the capacity to filter oil at a flow rate of 2000, 4000 or 6000 litres per hour. Annual check-ups on transformers can provide peace of mind and prevent costly damage.
