ANC wants answers from deputy finance minister
The African National Congress (ANC) is planning on meeting Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas following reports that the Gupta family offered him the top job in the ministry.
The party tried to call Jonas at the weekend to get clarity, but he was out of the country, ANC national spokesperson Zizi Kodwa told reporters on Monday.
Kodwa said the first time he heard the allegations was through the media.
"We make an effort to call that person to say please explain to us what is in the news, because we don't want to spin something we don't know as communicators of the ANC.
"We wanted to have a meeting with him. There are a number of issues we want to understand from him."
Kodwa said the ANC wanted to discuss the so-called meeting with Jonas and the claims that he was offered the job of finance minister.
Nobody but the president could make an offer of such an appointment, he said.
