PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Alkane Resources has signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with technology firm Siemens over the Dubbu zirconia project, in New South Wales.

The MoU details Alkane and Siemens’ joint intention to enter into separate agreements to progress and implement business opportunities, including an offtake of Dubbo products.

Alkane has also stated its intentions to procure equipment and systems from Siemens, including advanced infrastructure management systems, power solutions, mechanical plant and services.

The Dubbo project is expected to produce 16 000 t/y of zirconium products, which includes zirconium dioxide, speciality zirconium chemicals and other value-added zirconium products. At full one-million-tonne-a-year throughput capacity, the project will deliver zirconium revenue of between $100-million and $120-million, equating to about 30% of the total project revenue.
