Location
The proposed project will be located within Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Agency Benban 1.8 GW photvoltaic (PV) solar park comprising 39 separate PV plots.

Client
Alcom Energy SAE, a special-purpose vehicle company of Hassan Allam Holding (HAH).

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 50 MW PV plant. The project will comprise a single-axis tracking system of about 520 000 PV panels, with a nominal capacity of 50 MW ac. Power will be transferred to an inverter and fed into the utility power grid system through State-owned power utility Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company’s (EETC’s) Substation 1 through about 5 km of underground 22 kV transmission line.

The substation will be connected by a high-voltage line to the existing 220 kV high-voltage overhead line about 12 km east of the Benban PV site. All output generated by the project will be sold to EETC under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Jobs to be Created
The project is expected to create 300 jobs during construction and 30 permanent jobs during the operational phase of the project.

Value
The project is estimated at $120-million, to be funded by a combination of debt and equity financing.

Duration
Construction of the project is expected to start by the end of 2016.
