Air-conditioning engin- eers and contractors specialist company Luwa South Africa, a division of Actom, has formed a close corporation with industrial dust extraction and gas cleaning systems provider Actom Air Pollution Control and fan supplier Fläkt Woods.

“This initiative, called Actom Air, aims to boost the growth of the three companies by complementing one another and exploiting synergies among them,” says Luwa GM Frank van Dongen.

Further, the companies, which are located in Cape Town and Durban, and Cresta, in Gauteng, can now better target customers previously out of their own geographical area.

This follows electrical engineering group Actom Power Conversion’s acquisition of Luwa earlier this year.

“Luwa remains a stand- alone business within Actom and no plans have been made to incorporate the new addi-tion into another Actom business unit,” he says. However, the company will change its name to Actom HVAC Systems within the next six months.

Meanwhile, Luwa, in con- junction with steam boiler manufacturer John Thompson, is studying the energy savings potential of integrating air-conditioning systems with steam-generating plants.

“A considerable amount of research and development still has to be undertaken, but the initial energy-savings calculations are encouraging,” says Van Dongen.
