Afrimat’s Nkomati Anthracite Mine in Mpumalanga today officially opened the Sikhwahlane Community Hall in Matsamo, in partnership with the Matsamo Tribal Authority, Nkomazi Local Municipality and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.

Nkomati Anthracite committed over R2 900 000.00 to fund the construction of a brick-and-mortar community hall as part of its Local Economic Development (LED) projects.

This is the final of three LED projects committed to by the mine, which addressed fundamental needs identified specifically by the community. The community hall, which can accommodate up to 250 people, will serve as a venue for training and development initiatives, traditional events, and formal community meetings.

Construction of the Sikhwahlane Community Hall commenced in early January 2023 and was completed by September of the same year. Tsobanang Construction (Pty) Ltd, a local company based in the Sikhwahlane area, was the contractor for this project.

Afrimat is passionate about creating lasting value and partnering with key stakeholders to positively contribute to the communities we operate in.
