With a relatively buoyant outlook and a number of economies in Africa clocking some of the fastest economic growth in the world, investment in Africa’s infrastructure is significant and growing, says BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA CEO Elaine Crewe.

Africa’s rising infrastructure demand is good news for earthmoving equipment com- panies operating in Africa, she notes.

BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA looks forward to having new technologies and developments in earthmoving equipment on display this month. An equipment trade fair of this nature will assist construction players to optimise their operations and, therefore, contribute to the growth and development of the continent, says Crewe.

BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA takes place from September 15 to 18, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

Meanwhile, the recently published report, ‘Deloitte on Africa: African Construction Trends 2014’, notes that investment by value on megaprojects under construction in Africa grew by 46.2% from $222-billion in 2013 to $326-billion in 2014.

In addition, average project value increased by 84%, from $689-million in 2013 to $1.27-billion in 2014.

In facilitating this development, the power sector in Africa will be one of the biggest opportunities for the construction industry going forward, states materials handling machine manufacturer Bell Equipment sales and marketing director Terry Gillham.

The ability to source power comes in many different formats, all of which present huge opportunities for the construction industry, says Gillham.

The development of road infrastructure is another substantial opportunity for construction in Africa, he adds.

For construction companies, quality equipment is integral for the success of these projects, states Gillham.

Contractors must make the right choice of equipment to avoid going into any major construction project with incorrect or inferior equipment, says Gillham. Reliable equipment that is well supported by a company with the ability to service that equipment because of the remote locations of these projects is equally important, he states.

As an African manufacturer, Bell is proud to be able to showcase its products at an African trade show like BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA, states Gillham.

Customers are looking for durability and equipment that works well and performs under stress – this is critical in all African countries, comments construction equipment manufacturer CNH Industrial Construction Equipment Africa marketing manager Riccardo Balma.

CNH is due to be one of the exhibitors at BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA 2015.

Research and Development Critical
Investment in technological advancements is another pertinent factor for equipment suppliers, notes Crewe. Research and development is important for all equipment suppliers, particularly those servicing the mining and construction sectors, she continues.

This is not only so that equipment suppliers can retain their place in the market, but to continue meeting the needs of customers, whose requirements are constantly evolving to tackle the new and interesting challenges that come with working in Africa, says Crewe.

Today’s construction industry focuses on the latest technology developments and CNH Industrial Construction Equipment is at the forefront of the industry, Balma boasts.

After-sales service is important to CNH and this is why the company offers extended warranty coverage and a range of maintenance plans that can be customised with the dealer, he says, highlighting that dealers play a key role in building customer satisfaction.

CNH Industrial Construction Equipment focuses not only on technology to improve equipment performance but also on keeping equipment as cost effective as possible, says Balma.

He says that BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA 2015 offers a big opportunity for CNH Industrial Construction Equipment as the company has a strong focus on Africa.

“BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA provides continentwide opportunities for customers to meet both us and our dealers – and we will be present to showcase the strength of both our products and our services,” he concludes.
