The acquisition by electronic security equipment distributor Elvey Security Technologies of closed-circuit television (CCTV) equipment distributor Pentagon Distribution, in March this year, has enabled both parties to offer customers better solutions, says Elvey Security Technologies CEO Jack Edery.

Both companies fall under JSE-listed Hudaco Industries’ security division.

Edery says Elvey and Pentagon focus on different customers, yet the two businesses complement each other. “Together, we will offer the market a broader range of products that will provide customers with better solutions for their applications.”

The companies operate as separate entities, but link up at critical points to offer existing customers the best of both companies’ technologies.

Pentagon’s customers stand to benefit from Elvey’s black economic-empowerment status and Pentagon now has the financial muscle to take on larger projects, as Elvey is better placed to support customers on small- and medium-sized projects across its 17 branches in Southern Africa.

“With Hudaco’s backing, we are jointly positioned to partner with any and all security projects in Africa,” says Edery.

Elvey was founded in 1946 by Charles Elvey, listed on the JSE in 1999 and acquired by Hudaco in 2001.

The company has 184 employees at its 17 branches and exports its products to other sub-Saharan African countries. The company also has a well-established repair facility and technical support department.

Further, Elvey offers training programmes aimed at enhancing the product knowledge of installers. It has become the first recognised facility in South Africa to carry out training courses towards a Bachelor of Technology qualification under UK training facility Tavcom Training’s brand.

The company is recognised as a supplier of internationally respected brands, including DSC, NetworX, Optex, Visonic, Electronics Line, Bosch, GSC, Impro, CEM, Bentel and Fibre Options. Its affiliation to renowned local and inter- national suppliers enables it to provide high-quality products to the security industry. Products are tested to ensure the equipment will withstand harsh conditions.

He adds that Elvey is ISO 9001-accredited for quality, ISO 18001-accredited for health and safety, as well as ISO 14001-accredited for environment management.
