Industrial-scale diesel-photovoltaic (PV) hybrid provider Dhybrid Power Systems has been selected to install a 3.2 MW hybrid diesel PV system at a supermarket in Mauritius.

The company would install a 1.2 MW PV system on the supermarket’s almost 10 000 m2 of roof space, with Dhybrid’s HyGRID fuel reduction system to be used to synchronise the PV system with industrial diesel power plants.

In addition to the PV system, 75 inverters, a number of HyGRID professional controllers and two 1 000 kVA diesel generators would be integrated into the public power grid as a unified system, the company said.

Dhybrid explained that the HyGRID controllers formed an interface between the diesel power plant, the PV system, the power grid and electrical consumers.

“This way, a significant [portion] of the required energy is supplied directly by the PV system and consumed, which leads to diesel savings. Challenging operating conditions such as overloading, feedback and sudden load fluctuations are [also] immediately balanced out by the system and the diesel generators can run at their optimal operating point,” Dhybrid said.

The construction of the HyGRID fuel reduction system would start next month.
