Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 980 MW high-voltage direct current offshore converter platform.

Electricity generated from offshore wind farms will be converted into direct current and transported using a 190 km submarine cable from TenneT’s BorWin kappa offshore platform to an onshore converter station 45 km inland, near Büttel, in Germany. Here, the electricity will be converted into three-phase current and fed into the extra-high voltage grid.

Latest Developments
McDermott, a fully integrated provider of engineering and construction solutions to the energy industry, has safely and successfully executed its heaviest stacking lift at its Jebel Ali fabrication yard, in Dubai. This record-breaking achievement marked the latest milestone for the project.

The stacking of deck level one had a total weight of 1 962 t and was conducted in a tandem lift operation involving six cranes. This complex operation was conducted by McDermott's lifting fabrication team, alongside construction support engineering, and its health, safety and environmental team. The lift was performed securely and ahead of schedule.
