WPIC shines a spotlight on platinum investment options

A range of accessible options exist for private and professional investors in platinum, and low minimum investment levels are possible, the World Platinum Investment Council (WPIC) reveals in a new infographic.

Rarer than gold and with unique properties making it an in-demand industrial and precious metal, there are many reasons to consider platinum as an investment, it argues.

Moreover, as well as being a long-term store of value, platinum can also act as a currency hedge and a portfolio diversifier, depending on investment goals, the council points out.

Supply and demand fundamentals are a further consideration. The WPIC notes that the platinum market is currently in deficit, owing to strong demand drivers, including the growing hydrogen economy and constrained supply.

Similar to gold, platinum is a hard asset that investors can turn to in times of increased risk.

The WPIC’s infographic thus highlights different investment options for platinum.

These include physical ownership, in the form of platinum bars and coins; physically-backed exchange-traded funds; platinum accumulation plans; online investment; and indirect ownership in the form of futures and shares in platinum mining companies.
